worth praying?

And if God really listen ...

In November 1789, George Washington, first President of the United States, proclaimed:

"Since it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God and obey his will, to be grateful for His benefits and humbly to implore his protection and favor [...]
Now I recommend and establish that next Thursday, November 26 is dedicated by the people of those countries in the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, is or will be.
And then we can also join humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beg pardon our transgressions and not national - to put us all in a position, both positions in public and private, to execute our duties on time and accurately and to make our national government a blessing to all the people, keeping a government made up of wise laws, and constitutional right, and obey performed with discretion and fidelity. "

may laugh thinking that a democratic state and independent from every religious denomination can devote to thank God for a national holiday. But the founding fathers of the United States takes into consideration a duty and a necessity. And that feast is still celebrated today after 221 years. This year, fell Thursday, November 25.

Today the American people practice many faiths, and the majority, perhaps, does not practice any. No longer believes that the U.S. is a nation Christian. And when they are spoken on television or in the Italian newspapers, Christianity in the United States is no longer a subject of jokes and criticism than appreciation.

However, there were certainly among the first settlers of sincere believers, and despite the general abandonment of religious faith throughout the world, as well as in America, there is no doubt that even in this country there are many true believers. Indeed, even the Europeans recognize that there still many people in the United States of faith, but prefer to speak of "dangerous fundamentalists," as if they were the plague.

When there is really freedom of religion, there can be one of the groups also "Dangerous fundamentalists" that are funny or scary to some, but they are not the majority of American believers.

Estimate and to love our brothers in every language and people is a duty. Let us rejoice if there are some, or many, who pray to God for their government and I thank him for the religious freedom that they enjoy. Let us unite in praying for the government, and the rulers, the Italians, who are obviously very much needed. But, do not forget to thank God for the religious freedom that we enjoy and use it to its glory.
